Sludge Handling
Sewage sludge is a byproduct of wastewater treatment plants. It is composed of both organic and inorganic materials, a large concentration of plant nutrients, organic chemicals, as well as pathogens.
The main objectives of sludge handling are as follows:
- Stabilization of the organic matter contained in the sludge
- Reduction in the volume of sludge for disposal by removing some of the water
- Destruction of pathogens
- Collection of by‐products, which may be used or sold to off‐set some of the costs of sludge treatment
- Disposal of the sludge in a safe and aesthetically acceptable manner
RWT offers optimum solutions to treat and handle sludge generated across primary, secondary and tertiary wastewater treatment. We tailor specific treatment systems including advanced anaerobic digestion (AD), and biogas treatment products, dewatering and drying, composting of sludge streams to ensure customers receive the most efficient combination of technology and products at the lowest overall cost for sludge treatment and disposal.
